Abstract:

X-ray scatter measurements of multiphase flows have been developed at the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory. The first technique provides a pathway to probe sprays with penetrating x-rays without fluorescence tracers or contrast agents. The point-wise confocal measurements were raster scanned in all three spatial dimensions to map out the time-averaged 3D density map of the spray without the need for tomographic reconstruction. The second technique determines the average liquid temperature using diffraction patterns.
